Happy Ash Wednesday, errybody! It's time to celebrate the vanity of the world around us (not to mention our limited and fragile lives) by planning to do something/give something up and fail to live up to that. Kinda like New Years Resolutions, only for a 40 day sprint. What am I giving up this Lentmas, you ask? Find out under the cut!

Okay, it's soda. I'm giving up soda for Lent. Why am I doing this? Well, I've simply decided that the health risks of soda far outweigh any of its potential deliciousness. In fact, I would have quit earlier, but the damn drink is just so gosh-darn addicting. Part of what's spurred me on is that a guy on a board I frequent who is only a couple years older than me got diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes just a few months ago. That really hit close to home for me, and I've decided I don't wanna end up dead at 50 just because I couldn't get over my love for sugar water. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle other sugary drinks, like juice; I think I'll try to avoid them if I can, but give myself a little more leeway here than with soda. The same goes for candy and other sweet snacks.

More than anything else, though, I'm sick of relying on soda to help me feel good. If I need a pick-me-up at work, I can grab an Earl Grey for a caffeine boost (at a much cheaper cost, too). Deals for a sandwich and soda too tempting at the local Subway? I'll just start bringing my lunch instead. I just don't want any more soda in my life. Get that soda away from me.
